Canton is a town located in Norfolk County, Massachusetts. Canton was first settled in 1630. It was officially incorporated in 1797. The nme Canton comes frpm the early belief that Canton, Chona wass on the complete opposite side of the Earth. Paul Revere once had a silve smelt there and wrote the poem entitled Canton Dale about his affection for the town. Canton also claims to have been the birthplace of Rising Sun Stove Polish as well as the first pay toilet.
Canton lies at the foot of Great Blue Hill. The Neponsett River flows through the center of town, linking a chain of small lakes including Bolivar and Forge Ponds.

The Massachusetts Audubon Society Visaul Arts Center is located in Canton. The Center, where Mildred Morse Allen Wildlife Sanctuary is located, houses extensive collections of natural history art and photography. Public programs integrating art and nature, and changing exhibitions in the gallery, provide opportunities fo visitors to view featured works from collections. Explore the Mildred Morse Allen Wildlife Sanctuary’s scenic trail system through a meadow, forest and red maple swamp. In the spring there are many wildflowers in bloom and vernal pools are filled with frogs and salamaders. In the winter, deer, fox, and coyote tracks can be found.
